Strength Band Training – 2nd Edition to be Released November 9th

The second edition of the popular “Strength Band Training” book is due to be released this November 9th.

The book has been updated with new exercises and techniques, including workout routines targeted at specific sports or parts of the body. With pictures illustrating each of the 160 different exercises (54 brand new ones), this is a great book to carry along with you to get the most out of your resistance band workouts.

Review – RIPCORDS Resistance Bands Power Tension 5 Pack

The RIPCORDS Resistance Bands Power Tension 5 Pack is a complete fitness band workout set. The bands are manufactured to the highest standards, and there is enough extra goodies included in the set to make this a clear winner over other sets that tie themselves to a famous workout system (P90X for instance).

The set includes:
5 Resistance Bands (Tensions ranging from 3 – 42 pounds)
Handles on each band
Door hook
DVD with 3 circuit routines
90 Day Money Back Guarantee
Lifetime Replacement Warranty (minus shipping and handling)

Exercise bands take a lot of punishment. They get stretch and pulled and stood on and bent into all sorts of weird shapes. Even the best resistance bands in the world will wear out and break eventually, that is why the lifetime replacement warranty on this set is so attractive. Though these bands are manufactured to last a long time, it is also comforting to know that if they ever do start to break down that you can get them replaced for free.

The RIPCORDS Resistance Bands – Power Tension 5 Pack cords are manufactured using RPC Sequential Layering Process. Basically this means that there are basically thousands of layers of rubber in each band, so if the outer layer begins to wear down there are plenty more layers behind it that will hold together. You don’t have to worry about a sudden snap breaking your nose or your furniture.

The only thing we would have liked to have seen included would be the ankle straps. However the wide handles can easily support your foot, and the additional value of a guarantee and a warranty easily balances out the missing ankle straps.

The enclosed Circuit7 DVD is great for people who are just beginning working out with resistance tubes. Those people already following an established program (such as P90X) will already know their routine. These bands work great with Circuit7 and will provide enough resistance for all but the most serious exercisers.

Review – The Resistance Band Workout Book

The Resistance Band Workout book by Ed McNeely is a guide for beginner to moderate level of resistance band training. If you have just purchased a new set of exercise bands, or are looking for new ways to use the ones you have owned for years, then this book will help you.

Resistance bands are important because they can be configured to target just about any muscle group in your body. The Resistance Band Workout Book provides dozens of clearly illustrated and explained exercises for working everything from your calves to your shoulders. The book is aimed at beginners and casual exercisers looking for whole body workouts which are more efficient when you target muscle groups. Therefore the Resistance Band Workout Book does not provide exercises for targeting individual muscles such as triceps or hamstrings. Yes, these muscles will get worked, you will just be working them as part of an exercise that also targets the adjoining muscles.

While The Resistance Band Workout Book does show you dozens of different exercises, it is hard to go back and find an exercise you are looking for because the workout programs provided in the rear of the book do not reference the page number of the actual exercise. This means that until you know how to do all the exercises in the various workouts by heart then you will be doing a bit of page flipping trying to find the illustration for the Chest Press for example.

There are not a lot of books out there that give good details on using exercise bands. Since resistance bands are so cheap compared to other pieces of home gym equipment, there is not a lot of money to be made in that market so book publishers have tended to let it go. The Resistance Band Workout Book by Ed McNealy is about as good as any other beginner level exercise book you are going to be able to find. While the book does lack some indexing, the clear explanation and illustration of how to perform the exercises using your exercise bands makes up for it.

So do we recommend it? Yes, it does what it needs to do and is probably one of the better books on the subject that will ever be written.
