For someone just starting out with exercising with resistance bands, it can be a bit confusing figuring out exactly how to use them. There are some obvious exercises, but in order to get the full benefit of your fitness bands and get a good whole body workout some guidance is helpful. There is no better way to learn how to use resistance bands than to watch someone else using them, and that is why the Go Fit Ultimate Pro Gym is a great choice for the beginner. The enclosed 25 minute DVD leads you through a complete workout taught by personal trainer Mark Verstegen. If you don’t have a DVD player handy, the kit also includes a poster which shows many different workouts you can do.
In addition to the DVD, the Go Fit Ultimate Pro Gym also includes 3 resistance bands (5, 10, and 15 pounds), ankle straps, handles, door anchor, and a carrying case. The door anchor is a must have addition to any resistance band set as it greatly increases the number of possible exercises. Any resistance band set that does not include a door anchor is one that you should definitely pass on.
This set is definitely aimed at the beginner or casual exerciser since it only includes up to 15 pounds of resistance. Of course you could go for more challenging workouts by combining the bands, but if you are going for a more intense workout to build muscle mass then a set that includes stronger single bands might be more of what you are looking for. However if you are just looking for something to help you lose weight and get some muscle strength but not necessarily bulk then this set is perfect for you.
The resistance bands included with this set are of fairly good quality which will hold up to use by a normal exerciser. If you are intending to use them for high intensity then the handles may get worn out a bit quicker than you expect. This is why it is always a good idea to double check the straps and inspect the resistance bands for damage or white scarring. This holds true for any fitness band set, not just the Go Fit Ultimate Pro Gym.
Our testers found the Go Fit Ultimate Pro Gym “good enough” for new exercisers or those needing light training such as people on physical therapy or are struggling with low mobility. The included DVD will help get you started and the bands are of good enough quality to last a long time through normal use. However if you are a bodybuilder, or trying to become one, then you should be looking at the more advanced sets which only cost about $20 more and are geared for high intensity.
